Comments, Schedule, Slowness

STSP Thoughts

Another week, another Scooby returns to the fold. Strangely enough, Willow's increased presence in this episode pointed out how much she was missed in the others. There was something to the feel of this episode that wasn't present in the first two. As well as Sarah, Nick, and Michelle work with each other, the Scooby dynamic seems to falter when all the members aren't present. It's good to have Willow back, and it'll be even better when Anya's story is resolved.

While I enjoyed the episode, I do feel that it lacked a bit of 'oomph'. Willow's back and nobody can see each other, insert a extraneous Monster of the Week, then add some 'Eww'. Demon slayed, spell reversed, everyone's happy again. As you can tell, it's a bit formulaic with no real new revelations or plot twists. It was nice, but nothing to write home about.

On a good note, Slayers-In-Training this week were safe (and contrary to some reports, Sarah is not playing these Slayers). The bad news is that the Hellmouth is still acting up and may even be having an effect on reality. I also find it interesting that they made a point of Giles, er, Mr. Giles being at a meeting of the Watchers Council.

I do like the increased role for Dawn, it's a welcome change from the previous two seasons. I'm still a bit concerned about Spike's insanity, he actually seems to have become worse.

Hmm, that's a pretty short review. But as much as I liked the episode, there just wasn't as much meat as I would have liked. Which is probably due to the fact that there didn't seem to be any 'B' story arc at all.

Episode Updates

Some scheduling notes. I can confirm that 'Him' is the title for episode six, however it will not be airing on October 29th as expected. Instead, we will be getting an encore presentation of 'Lessons'. 'Him' will be the first episode of sweeps, and air the following week.

Pictures of 'Help', which Fraz posted a few days ago at Fan Forum, are also available at Comics Continuum.

Lack Of Spoilers

As you've noticed, there has been a definite decrease in new spoilage as of late. I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. We've gotten a lot of info for the first six episodes, but it's not unusual for the spoilers to drop off a bit as we hit mid-season. Last season there was very little info for 'Smashed' and 'Wrecked' until just before the episodes aired. I would expect to start new info within a week or so.
