ATS: 'A Hole In The World' Summary

While Wesley and Fred grow closer, a mysterious sarcophagus is delivered to her lab. While investigating it, she's is affected by a mysterious illness. Mystical in nature, it appears that unless drastic measures are taken, she will die.

The team is stumped, as all of their resources are unable to provide a solution. Then Knox lets slip that he knows more than he is saying, and they discover that Knox arranged this. Fred will die, in order for her body to become a host for one of the 'Old Ones', Illyria.

Angel and Spike travel to England to a placed called 'The Well', where Illyria used to be kept. The Keeper of 'The Well', Drogyn, explains how Illyria vanished a month earlier. Fred can be saved, but if they do, then Illyria's essence will infect millions of others. In the end, Angel makes the difficult decision that they won't save Fred. Back in her apartment, under Wesley's care, Fred passes away. A moment later, Illyria rises in her body.

When Fred (Amy Acker) opens up an ancient sarcophagus that was anonymously sent to her, she is infected by a mysterious parasitic demon called Illyria. Angel (David Boreanaz) and Spike (James Marsters) learn that Illyria is an ancient demon who existed before recorded time, and they must race to return her to an ancient demon burial ground before she kills Fred and thousands of other innocent victims.
