Site News: No More Tru Calling

Well, it seems that after years of not having an issue with Fox, they finally decided that they have had enough of me. Sitting on my doorstep this afternoon, in a DHL courier envelope, was a brief two-page letter from the Fox legal department. Fox is requesting that while it's okay to keep up the Buffy/Angel archives, I must immediately remove any and all Tru Calling spoilers/summaries and links.

Before, I might have tried to fight it. But to be honest, I was on the fence about covering 'Tru Calling' as it is. If Fox feels that having less spoilers might improve the ratings for the show, more power to them. Effective immediately, the site will no longer cover 'Tru Calling'. I have also been requested to remove any and all images related to Buffy/Angel/Tru Calling that are used for 'commercial' purposes. Which means I have to remove the Spoiler Store and banner ads.

What does this mean for the site as a whole, I'm really not sure? One of the other shows I was thinking about covering was a Fox property, which pulls that out of the running. Of the others I was kicking around, one has yet to receive the greenlight and the other is going to be on a network that is infamous for canceling shows after a few episodes. While I don't want to end spoiling shows, if it means I'm going to be getting 'legal documents' on my doorstep on a regular basis, I have to be honest and say that it's not worth it. The site itself really has nothing left to prove, and if the networks feel that what I'm doing is detrimental to their shows, then why try to fight it.

In any event, with the last of the spoilers for 'Dead Like Me' coming in, I don't have to make a decision immediately. But I think it's safe to say that there will not be a lot of news over the next few weeks, while I try to figure things out.

In the meantime. I have done the best I could to remove any Season Two 'Tru Calling' spoilers and store links. Since the letter specifically mentioned Season Two spoilers, I have not removed the 'Tru Calling' entries for Season One. If you do run across any Season Two spoilers or broken links while surfing the site, please let me know so it can be corrected.

Thank You for all of your support and understanding!!!

Site News: Update

It appears that it will be a slow month of June, with only updates for 'Dead Like Me' in the near future. I would expect that 'Tru Calling' news to begin sometime in Early July.

You may have noticed that I've created a spacer for another show on the site, but I don't want to announce which show it is just yet. The reason is that I'm considering one of two shows at the moment to spoil, and there is still the possibility that I may cover both shows. Until I make a final decision, I don't want to set any expectations. However, I will note that one of the shows in question is not 'Smallville'. Although I get multiple requests to cover this series, I don't watch it myself. Since I'm not actively watching the show, it's going to be hard to judge whether or not spoilers are accurate or inaccurate. It is also not the 'Buffy Animated Series', which although spoilers will be interesting to say the least (considering the format), it should be a given that any Buffyverse show will be covered by the site.

I'm also considering adding a feature or two to the site, which I'll be experimenting with through the month of June. If all goes as planned, you should see the changes in early July.

So while the updates may be slow, don't be concerned. The site isn't going away, and there will hopefully new and interesting news within the next month or so.

Site News: State Of The Union

As I'm sure you've all noticed by now, it's been a long time since there has been a daily update, or even a bi-daily update, or almost a weekly update. While news stories continue to trickle in, there really hasn't been any spoiler news.

Which, of course, is for a good reason. There just isn't anything to spoil at the moment, with the exception of 'Dead Like Me'. However, I do get a number of e-mails in regards to what's going on with the various shows. Since it's been so slow, a recap of the news might be useful.

Angel: The Series: 'Angel', as a television series, will pretty much come to a close this Wednesday. Despite rumors to the contrary, nobody is going to step in to save the show. David Boreanaz has even commented that he doesn't have a huge interest to continue the character on the small screen.

But what about the rumored tele-movies? To be honest, all of my sources were extremely doubtful that they would actually happen. Certainly not anytime in the near future. That doesn't mean that the door isn't open for say, a Spike Tele-movie (which has been hinted). But it's nearly certain that we won't see anything before 2005, and more than likely not until the Fall of 2005.

While it's sad to see the Buffyverse vanish from the airwaves, there is always the hope that it will return in some form. There are many stories yet to be told in the Buffyverse, and I don't think we've seen the last of either The Slayers or the Vampires.

Tru Calling: As I write this, 'Tru Calling' is much like a victim in a morgue. Laying on a gurney, while we hope that their eyes are going to open and ask us to 'Save Them'. Although the network was hoping for a much-needed bump in the ratings from the addition of Jason Priestley, it didn't make that much of a difference. While the show tried to end the season with a bang, it really did seem more like a whimper.

Later this week, we should know Tru's fate. Even then, it's not going to be a guarantee. With Fox making the decision to air new shows during the Summer, if one of these is a smash hit, Fox may shuffle the returning shows in the Fall. While I have have hopes that the series will return, Tru's fate may be up in the air here as well. I may or may not cover it if it returns, only because I choose to cover shows that I really enjoy watching. Not only did I fail to catch the 'Tru Calling' bug, but the Spoiler Community for the most part has shown a huge disinterest in the series as well. The big twist in the final episode didn't go unspoiled because it was a well-kept secret, it went unspoiled because nobody cared enough to spoil it.

I'll hold off on any decision until Fox makes their announcement, and might even give the first few episodes of next season a shot. But no guarantees.

Wonderfalls: The best series of the year, and one of the shortest-lived. I was looking forward to both 'Wonderfalls' and 'Still Life' this season, and only got a taste of both. I wanted more, and the only bright spot is that 'Still Life' may make it to air this Summer.

As for 'Wonderfalls', while it's chances as a full-fledged series are over, there is hope that the filmed episodes will make it to the airwaves or to DVD sometime in the near future.

While I will be taking down the Sidebar categories for 'Wonderfalls' Spoilers and News by the end of this month, I will archive the actual Spoiler page. I will also continue to post news about any TV broadcasts or DVD releases.

Dead Like Me: Season Two is being shot at this time, and should air in Early July. Everything looks good for this season, and hopefully there will be a Season Three to follow.

What does this all mean for the site. I'm really not certain at the moment. While I will definitely be covering at least one show into the future, the nature of that series means that there will be a rush of spoilers, then nothing for several months. Even if 'Tru Calling' is renewed and I continue to cover it, it still means a lot of downtime for the site.

I get many requests to cover other shows like 'Smallville' or 'Alias', all fan-favorites that could use a good dose of spoiling. However, the goal of the site has never been about quantity, but about quality. I personally don't watch 'Smallville', so it would be hard to sort the spoilers from the foilers. While I watch 'Alias', the nature of that show's scripting generates spoilers that one would think are foilers. There is a lot of 'creative rewriting' of the past, so what one would think would have to be fake, actually ends up being the truth. (and on a sidenote, is it just me, or did they just rip-off much of Buffy: Season Five this year)

I've gotten a large amount of interest, based on earlier comments, about covering the new 'Doctor Who' series. I do think that is a strong possibility, although much of it may not be much more than spoiling what is aired in England (think of it like a British site spoiling 'Angel', after it's aired in the United States). As for other series, much of it will depend on if I get into them and have a desire to seek spoilers for the shows. 'Point Pleasant' is one possibility, and there may be a few others. That's how both 'Dead Like Me' and 'Wonderfalls' were added to the site, and I'm always open to new shows.

No need to be worried, the site is not going anywhere. At the least, there is bound to be continued news about Joss Whedon's projects, and I will be following those (with the exception of 'Firefly'). Hopefully, we won't be Whedon-less for very long.

Site News: Updates

If you head on over to the Spoiler Summary pages, you will notice that almost everyone has been updated. In addition, I've made some changes to the actual spoiler listings. Since there really isn't much of a need to track 'false spoilage' anymore, I pulled that information a few months back.

Since that time, I've gotten many requests to keep the old information from episodes that have aired up on the pages. Before, this wasn't realistic because the false spoilers were taking up a good chunk of space. Now that I've scrapped that, it was a simple matter to implement the spoilers for previously aired episodes.

From this point on, the top of the spoiler summary pages will list spoilers for episodes that have yet to air (so you get the most recent spoilage at the top), but if you scroll down, you will see the past spoilers for episodes that have already aired.

I've also gotten more than few emails, as I usually do, asking if I will be covering other shows in the future. Especially once 'Angel' is gone, and if the two 'Fox' shows don't make it to the 2004-2005 season. The two most commonly requested shows are 'Alias' and 'Smallville'. I can pretty well guarantee that regardless of what happens, I will not be covering either of those shows on the site. I gave up watching 'Smallville' shortly after the start of the second season, and as for 'Alias', I really do prefer to remain unspoiled. The same holds true for some of my other favorite shows, like 'Gilmore Girls' and 'The West Wing'. If I do pick up new shows, it will likely be those that may not be airing in the States, so I'll be seeing the spoilers anyway. ('Doctor Who' comes to mind, and I would do 'Coupling', but I don't think it would fit the site's theme). I expect that there may be the occasional new show that might pique my interest, but until they hit the air, it will be hard to say which shows those would be.

But at the moment, all my energy is devoted to getting the news out about 'Wonderfalls'. Not since the 'X-Files', have I been so excited to admit that I'm staying home on Friday nights to watch TV.

Site News: News Archives

With the number of stories coming in, the 'Daily News' has been pretty much been flying off the page in less than a day. There have been some requests to include a link to the older stories, which I have now done.

If you wish to see previous stories that have been posted in the 'Daily News From Around The Web' section, the archive link at the bottom of the box will take you to the last 30 days worth of stories.

Site News: New Store Items

Just a heads up that the 'Angel' Season 3 DVD sets will be available this Tuesday, I should also note that the release date for Season 6 of Buffy was moved up, it will arrive on May 25th.

A few people wrote to let me know that both the 'Fray' graphic novel and the 'Dead Like Me' DVD's are available to order. Fray is out now, however, the 'Dead Like Me' DVD's can be pre-ordered and will be out on May 4th. This is the perfect way for those who don't have Showtime, to get a chance to see this excellent series.

As always, using any of the Amazon links on the site, donates a small percentage of the sale to the site. It's a great way to help the support the site and keep us up and running.

Thanks for all of your support.

Site News: Updating Complete

For now...

I've totally reworked the Spoiler Summary pages, including adding new pages for both 'Dead Like Me' Season Two and 'Wonderfalls' Season One. There is a chance that a thing or two may have been broken in the process, so if you do run across any issues, please let me know.

I've also received a report that the 'Recent Entries' on the sidebar are not working correctly, and may send you to Amazon.com. If anyone else is experiencing this, please let me know.

I've also added RSS 1.0 and 2.0 feeds for the 'News From Around The Web' portion. They can be found at www.spoilerslayer.com/news/index.rdf and www.spoilerslayer.com/news/index.xml.

I'm very interested in your feedback on the changes or if you run into any issues. Just drop me a line at feedback@tensdomain.com.

Site News: Still Updating

After the big news rush earlier this week, things have been quiet the past few days. I'm still working on tweaks to the site, the goal is to streamline some of the things that happen behind the scenes. Why? Because on average, I spend at least an hour a day reading news, checking spoilers, and updating things here and there.

While I liked the concept of having a daily News Wrap, it was eating up a significant chunk of time. In addition, half the time I would see them earlier in the morning, and have to try and remember what to post. So instead of having to collate them at the end of the day, I've added the 'Daily News From Around The Web' at the top of the 'News and Spoilers' page. This will be updated throughout the day as I come across stories or interviews or reviews of interest, and show the last 8 stories posted.

At this time, these posts won't be showing up in the Yahoo! Mailings or on the RSS Feeds. However, if I get the chance, I'll rectify at least one of those issues this weekend. You may have also noticed that it broke what little Netscape 4.x support I've been able to coax out of the code, that's been fixed.

Slightly off-topic, but just to prove that my powers of speculation aren't always entirely off-base...

Check out what I had to say about today's 'Tru Calling' episode over 2 and 1/2 months ago.

Site News: RSS Testing

I have a special request for anyone who is currently subscribing to the site updates using an RSS newsreader. I've had a standard RSS 1.0 feed up for a while, which is accessible at www.spoilerslayer.com/index.rdf. I've been working on an official RSS 2.0 feed, and I'm currently testing it for compatibility. This feed is available at www.spoilerslayer.com/index.xml . Feel free to use them with your favorite flavor newsreader.

Note: If you want more info about RSS newsreaders/aggregators. Check out All About RSS || Fagan Finder.

Updated

Rather than use the feedback email address for any issues or suggestions, I'm actually moving this discussion over to my weblog. So if you have any input, please go to this thread 'RSS Testing For Spoilerslayer.com', and use the comments field for feedback, etc. I'd also be interested in just hearing from you if you are using RSS, and it's working.

Site News: Changes And Additions

You will notice over the next few days, there will be a few changes to the site.

I've cleaned up the footer on the articles, removing some redundant information and providing a direct link to the article (for reposting elsewhere). Remember that you are free to repost anything that appears on the site, the only request is that you include a physical link back to the site (as opposed to just naming the site). The link button will take you to the actual article page, and you can use the link from that page.

A while back, I mentioned that I was looking into bringing back the links that used to be up for the Amazon UK and Amazon Canada sites. They are up and available in the Spoiler Slayer: Store. I won't be able to link specific items from those stores, but if you use these links to search and purchase items, you will be able to help support the site.

Finally, I've decided to make an addition to the shows that the Spoiler Slayer will be covering. It's a show that I've been eager to see get a launch date, and Fox took their time before finally deciding to add the show to their schedule. Unfortunately, they didn't give it the best night or time for a new show. So I hope that every fan of the site, at least here in the States, will make time in your schedule on March 12, 9 EST/8 CST for the premiere of 'Wonderfalls'. The show already has a connection to this site, as it was created by Bryan Fuller ('Dead Like Me') and is the Executive Producer is Tim Minear ('Angel'). It is also what I already consider to be the "Best New Show" of this season.

So prepare yourself to "Surrender To Destiny".

ATS/Site Update: News Wrap 1/5

Angel News

Zap2It has a nice article with Christian Kane, discussing his upcoming stint on 'Angel'.

Misc News

CNN.com has an interesting story on canceled shows, spotlighting both 'Firefly' and 'Miracles' (one of my 'Top 10 Shows Of 2003').

Finally, just as I did earlier this weekend with the Angel summaries, I've done the same with Tru Calling. The links are now up on the home page and for each episode on the Spoiler page.

Site News: Something New

I've been working on some changes to the site over the holiday. The biggest change is to make it easier to try and collate the various spoilers for each episode. To do this, I'm creating a specific post which will contain not only a brief summary of the episode, but links to all the articles posted on the site about that episode, as well as links to Additional Sources (Like Herc, Pandora, or Kristin). This post and summary will be updated as news continues to flow in.

You can get to the "Summary" post in one of two ways. Either through the link attached to the Episode Name on the Home Page, or by going to the Spoiler Summary page. The Summary article will be linked at the top of the Spoilers list for that episode.

I've currently finished summarizing and collating the articles for each of the upcoming 'Angel' episodes, I will work over the next few days to do the same for 'Tru Calling'. I hope this will help keep track not only of the latest info on the episodes, but provide an easy reference to all the stories that have been posted about the episode.

Site News: Giving

I'm going to go a bit off-topic for this post, no news or spoilers here, but I wanted to take a moment to talk about something that I feel is important this time of year.

For those who know me, I'm not only a big 'Buffy' fan, but I'm also a big video game and racing fan. So imagine my surprise when one of my favorite web comics (Penny Arcade), began a new project called Child's Play this holiday season to benefit the Seattle Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center. Which just so happens to be the same hospital supported by Team Seattle Racing, who raise money for it every year at the 24 Hours of Daytona. (and who I always look for every year at the race)

Since the site has covered it's hosting/operating costs for the year, and since this is what I feel is a worthy cause, I have taken a portion of the funds earned through Amazon.com Sales that remained from last quarter and donated it to the Child's Play project in the site's name. While it may not be much, I can't think of a better use of the surplus. I hope you will feel the same.

Happy Holidays from the Spoiler Slayer.

Site News: Updates

Spoilers have been updated for 'Angel' and 'Tru Calling', I have also tweaked the page a bit. As mentioned earlier, I've dropped the rankings as they have become a moot point (pretty much since the middle of the last season of 'Buffy'). I'm working on an overall summary system that will collate all the spoilers to go along with this. Should be in place by next week at the latest.

Updated a few items in the store and wanted to post a reminder that both 'Buffy Season Five' and 'Firefly' will be released on DVD this week. Also including a link to a new Buffy Guide, entitled Dusted. I'm going to enclose a little blurb from the editor.
Dusted provides detailed information on all seven seasons of the TV show, plus the comic and novel series. It strives to cater to both Buffy die-hard fans and newcomers, so we've got nuts-and-bolts stuff like story summaries, reviews and notes on magic and character development. However, we've also included a veritable goldmine of behind-the-scenes trivia, analysis, subtext, etc., which should keep long-time fans more than happy.
Feel free to order them using the links below, and help support the site. As always, for those who have already ordered your copies, thanks for all the support. It's what keeps the site running and remaining pop-up free. Thanks!

Site News: Questions and Answers

As mentioned in the post from earlier today, Question and Answer will be a new feature where I address questions that I receive from fans of the site via e-mail. The majority of email that I receive often covers different aspects of the same topic (for example, the false 'Chosen' spoiler generated over 25 emails over the course of weekend), or it's something that may interest more than just the one person who is asking the question.

Since I only recently updated the Contact page to indicate that email may be posted in part or in whole on the site, I won't identify the asker in this first installment. However, in the future, I will credit them by named unless asked specifically to not do so.

Onto the Q & A.

Site News: Changes And Updates

Since I had the day off, I decided to do a bit of site maintenance. You'll note a number of minor changes around the site, which hopefully will provide a better user experience. You can read more about the individual changes below. I've also updated the Spoilers page for 'Angel', and updated the schedule on the Home Page ( 'Just Rewards' will air on December 10th).

Holiday Hiatus

Very little action on all the Spoiler fronts. I have a feeling that either shooting is on hold for the Thanksgiving break, or very little if any will come about over this period as other sources, etc, may be taking a break for the holidays.

But I've been wrong before, so I will be keeping an eye out for anything to pop up. I would expect a few things to break over the next week, though probably nothing major.

I haven't updated the page yet, but it does appear that 'Angel' will be away for the next month, as Matt Roush of TV Guide has posted it as such. I do know that next week 'Conviction' will repeat, so I will hash together the repeat schedule on the front page as info comes in. My guess, would be only one or two episodes at most before February Sweeps.

As for 'Tru', it would appear to be new episodes for at least two, if not three weeks of December. But the jury is still out on the decision for the shows future. I still have not seen a solid confirm that any episodes past the first thirteen have been ordered, and it's ratings have not improved one bit. Hopefully, there will be some good news by year's end on the show.
